Dear Friends,
I am in a difficult situation for obtaining an immigrant visa for a new born baby (expected).

I am a landed immigrant (with PR card) and came back to my country after spending a month in Ontario.
I do not have OHIP card, therefore we decided to have a delivery in Japan and will move to Ontario in July 2012 after the delivery.

Someone told us that I have to sponsor my newly born-baby for PR (immigrant visa) and may take several years. Is it true?
What will be other possible ways to obtain an immigrant visa (PR) of my newly born baby? Or is it the same way for an applicant in process.

If I need to sponsor my baby, that will shatter my dream to move to Canada. I am in a big dilemma.

Thank you for your help.

Did you alone landed in Canada ?. What about your wife?. Is she already included in your PR application as your spouse?. If so did she get the PR visa?. A clear answer cannot be given unless I know the status of your wife.

In the mean time I would say that you should be back in Canada to sponsor your child when the child is born. You cannot sponsor your child or apply for PR from your country.

Dear Wilson,

Always indebted for your help everytime.

We, all family members (I, my wife, and two kids) have PR cards.
Look forward to hearing from you soon about the case of expected baby.
I am bit worried because if I need to sponser, I am still in Japan and I do not have any income in Canada.

Thanks again.

Gaizin

Additional information:

We all members (I, my wife and two kids ) landed in Ontario last year (april) and came back to Japan after spending a month there.

I do not have OHIP, thats why I could not afford the delivery there for a new baby.We are planning to move permanently on July 29 after having delivery in Japan in June..but I am confused what I should I do if I could not an immigrant visa for my new baby.
I was thinking that they would treat me as an applicant in process which seems wrong.

Hi Gaizin, Thanks. You are welcome.

Well,as I mentioned before, you cannot sponsor your child from outside Canada. In order to sponsor the dependent child, either of the parent should be residing in Canada. How ever, as you are planning to re-enter with your family in next July, your new born child should be allowed to enter Canada as visitor. Being Japanese, no need to apply for a TRV and for your child you must request for an extended stay which could be permitted by the immigration in Canada airport when you explain that the sponsorship application will be filed. You should bring the documents - birth certificate, passport - for the baby. On approval of sponsorship the PR application should be filed out land at Buffalo. Please also be noted that your child may not get PR visa during his first allowed visiting period and therefore if the extended stay is not granted initially, your wife should take the child back to your country and re-enter again after some time.

Dear Wilson,
Thank you so much for your time to write me again.
That would be okay if there is a way to apply for a PR card of my baby.
In that case, what will be the health insurance of my new baby?
After three months of landing in Ontario or 3 months after getting the PR card?

Your feedback is highly appreciated.

Gaizin

Your baby will not have health insurance until three months after becoming a PR.

So you should buy health insurance to cover your baby for the PR application processing time and the three months wait after PR is granted.

or go to Alberta (Calgary, Edmonton, etc) where you guys will be covered heathwise from day 1.

Hi Gaizin, OHIP will not be available while on visitor status. Need also three months wait time after PR - means 90 days from the date from landing. Therefore you need to take temporary health insurance for the child, which will not be so expensive.

to aviod the complexities sorrounding sponsoring your baby......i will advise you do as supported above.if you give birth to the baby in canadaa, the baby is authomatically a citizen

I think Gaizin's preference is Ontario.

For a normal healthy baby a insurance coverage between CAD 10,000 to 20,000/= ( per month ) is reasonable and for 3 months period, and the premium cost is not expensive. The insurance premium goes high when there is pre-existing health condition and on going treatment, especially for people over 50 years.

Dear All,
thank for all of you.
I meshed up different things, so having problem to sponser a baby.
Finally, we decided to move to Alberta on April 25 and to have the delivery there which is the easiest solution for us as all of you pointed out.

My question now is: We completed landing formalities in Ontario last year and we have SNS card, PR from Ontario. What type of documents I have to make from Ontario now so that we will be covered by Alberta Health Insurance after a day of our landing in Alberta?

See you guys in Alberta next month!!
