unfortunately, both PR and work permit applications take a while to process. it also takes a considerable amount of time to pull together the application information prior to submitting. For a PR application, if you are not married, in a commonlaw relationship, or have Canadian family to be a sponsor you will not be able to apply. A work permit requires a job offer from an employer and them applying for a labour market opinion to prove they can't fill that position with a canadian worker. Depending on where you are from you are looking at LEAST 6 months before any movement is made on either, once the application has been put into process. That is being generous, as most processing times are longer than that right now. As a visitor, you certainly can not just stay in canada and wait for something to happen without the proper authorization from CIC.
If you want to stay longer, and your visitor visa expires soon, you can attempt to apply for an extension online. It's recommended to apply at least 30 days prior to the visa ending. If you let your visa expire, you will not have legal status, and any job you get will be illegal. If you overstay your visa, you can jeopardize any future visits. If you work illegally, you risk deportation and being banned from canada for a period of time.
