TOEFL vs IELTS

Hey there,

The organization I hope to work with requires that I sit for the TOEFL exam. The issue is that I notice almost everybody is talking about IELTS exams and I am therefore wondering whether my target organization is the only one asking for TOEFL scores. With regards to this, do other educational institutions and employers recognize TOEFL as well as IELTS (after all they are testing the same thing) or am I better off sitting for both exams??? Huh Huh Huh

Organization can ask for the result of any language test, but CIC/CHC only recognizes, IELTs (general), TEF, CELPIP

I wonder why Alberta Teacher's Association would ask for TOEFL knowing this. I guess in this case I am better off doing both because I am not guaranteed a job with them anyway.

Yes you would need to take both.
IELTS is to prove your English language abilities to the CIC where they can measure it to their own accordance, rather than having to compare with different tests.
TOEFL is needed by the Teacher's Association because you are asking to apply as a teacher in a foreign country so you need to prove to them that you can actually teach English as a foreign language. My sister took the TOEFL course and was able to teach English in Italian academic places.
