To Use an Immigration Lawyer or Not?

Hello

I am undecided on whether to use an immigration lawyer or not, I did the express entry application on my own and got an ITA but didn't upload my degree, WES (World Education Services Canada) assessment and Transcript as one file so my application was cancelled. I re-did it and waiting for another ITA but I am wondering whether I should use an immigration lawyer or not... any feed-back from your experiences will much appreciated.

Thank you :D

I spoke to a few immigration consultants in India, and I found that this forum has as much info as you need.
With the new EE process, the initial EE form is simple enough for us not to miss the basics.

Go through the CIC website in detail again, go through the forum , ask questions and DIY.

I was confused like you were until Friday and then I found them to be useless. There is a lot of good karma in this forum , people will help.

Just make sure you don't miss the obvious requirements.

My advice, from someone currently working in Canada who hired an immigration consultant is don't do it. I hired someone last october, my visa expired in may and im now in a position where i have to return home (although i did get an ITA in June so should be in a position to get PR and come back in 6 months or so). Through my consultant i applied for CEC last november but missed quota. What annoys me is that i had over 500 points for EE and could have easily gotten ITA in March this year if I'd been more on the ball. My problem is Id simply assumed that on hiring a consultant and paying several thousand I would get good advice on what i needed to do. I know now that if i hadnt been lazy and done the research myself that id be in a better position.

If you do hire a lawyer/consultant make sure that you still educate yourself. No one cares more or is more dedicated to your application then yourself and to most consultants, even reputable ones, you are just another number in their file. Apply yourself and look for support from this forum when you need it. I wish id known about it earlier

I am so sorry about what happened to you but good thing is that you got your ITA in time for it to be processed for permanent residency, what you said is true that there is no one who cares about the application more than the applicant, thank you for sharing your experience with me. Good luck on getting your PR and returning to Canada! I hope everything works out for you.

Hello,

Well I did hired a consultant but just after paying the first INR 15,000/- instalment followed by getting initial advice and sending my courier off to WES, I felt like cheated. As for all the things like sending the courier and so on, I have to call the consultant number of times. In short, the consultant just taken things huge to my nerves without any reason.

I thought on getting help and support but in return I just ended up with a lot of tensions. So better AVOID. The whole process is really easy while all you require is to read the CIC website more properly as well as whenever you come up with any question, just bang upon this forum as this is very helpful.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck.
K
