Greetings,

I already have a student visa that I have gotten back in my country a month a go. However, I do not have a study permit yet, but I want to get it now while I’m in Canada.

How Can I get it?

I tried to link my paper application that I had to apply for my visa. I entered all the required info in order to link my previous application to an online account on cic. I put my UCI number, passport details and my institue registration details as well, but did not find me on the system to link my previous application to open an account to request a study permit.

Study permit is issued at the port of entry. What visa did you present when you arrive in Canada?

Your post is not very clear. Did you get a Temporary resident visa, do note that Canada official only has 2 types of visa which is eTA or TRV and you can only be eligible for one of them depending on your country which you are a citizen of.

I am assuming from your past threads that you have got into a program that is 6 months or less which does not require a study permit and now you want to join a longer program which requires a study permit.

In that case you can absolutely apply for a study permit from Canada but that will be a fresh application and you cannot link to your old application. If the embassy does not extend your TRV to cover your new studies then you will have to extend that also as well. nothing can be linked to your previous TRV as that process is already done. That will not help in getting a study permit and you will have to follow the same rules as anyone else applying for the first time itself.

TRV allows you to enter Canada and a study permit allows you to study in Canada. Just because you got a TRV for studies does not make it a student visa. Canada does not have a student visa program.

The canadian visa I have in my passport says it is a student visa. So I apply for student permit freshly from beginning?
