Hi forum ... all things considered , long term and short term, tax and all.
I found my self in the position where my temporary resident status proved more useful to me than my permanent one.
Is there anyway to cancel my PR application?
Do I need to then apply for a new visa (after my temporary one was voided)?

your help is appreciated

thanks
Louk

I don't know what you mean by "all things considered , long term and short term, tax and all.
I found my self in the position where my temporary resident status proved more useful to me than my permanent one" but think carefully before you cancel your PR because you may face a situation where the your visa will not be renewed. Think twice my friend.

I think you will be better with your PR than temporary visa.

Thanks for the answer, and I understand where you're coming from, but I am beyond that point.
This is a "How to?" question and the consequences.

If you're in Canada you may aswell just ask the Call Centre Agents.

I assume you contact them via letter, E-Mail or perahps through the call centre. The only real consequence would probably be a much more difficult road if you do decide to apply again. I don't really see the point of cancelling it all together, since you've already put in the time to complete the application. But, I'm sure there are reasons.

Good Luck To Ya.

If you have the PRC already go their office and tell them it will be withdrawn and if you are having the immigrant visa and the COPR and not landed yet, return it back to the embassy that issued the visa it will be cancelled and your RPRF paid will be refunded back to you.

The concequence is that if you want to get an immigrant visa again you will have to start applying from the begining. You can still be allowed to go to canada on a temporary level if you have all the requirements.

All the best

thanks alot, yes I am already in Canada and got my PR card.
how about my dependents? it is my understanding that they are given the PR status because I (the principle applicant) got the PR.
I will still be supporting them, and I will still be in Canada, but I will not be a PR anymore.

although I will not be a PR it is important for me that my dependents retain their PR status

any ideas?

thanks again

My personal Opinion: Renouncing your PR will not affect your dependant. God forbid, if you drop dead will they send them back to your country? No live continues.

Since landing had been done you are a permanent resident while they are permanent res too. If after 3 or 4 years they apply for citizenship and you refused they will not cancel theirs just bcos you did not put in your application for citizenship. So far you can provide affidavit of support that you will support them and at least your wife is working and can hold the family for sometime without becoming burden to the govt of canada, then you are good to go.

You have your reasons for this, but i will still advice you to think deeply b4 taking this decion.

All the best.
