I spent 1 year on a Working Holiday in BC, sent in request for extension in February that I knew was gonna get declined (only allowed one year) and left 1st of April. Came back in July on a tourist visa to move in with my canadian bf and start to work towards a common law visa. We went travelling and when we entered Canada again he wasnt with me cause we had a pretty big fight. The border guy only gave me a 1 month visa because of this - I had a ticket out of the country for April (as this was in October) but a lease til july for our place, and my bf wasnt with me to back up my story.
When we went to do a border run they said that they couldnt give me a tourist visa as I was evidently trying for Common law and couldnt be classified as "a tourist" because of this. He recommended to apply online and leave my bf out of the story.

We did this 2 weeks ago, but I had to go home for personal reasons. Now Im quite nervous about what is gonna happen at the border going back in. Are they gonna make a big deal out of me getting only 1 month and then trying to extend it but leaving? My story in the online application was that I was there to snowboard (we live in Whistler) hence why I was leaving in April, but Im hoping to stay til June now since we cant apply until July.

Hope all this wasnt too confusing. Such a complicated situation haha
Thanks

It's really impossible for any of us to say what will happen at the border. However generally speaking, if you've had problems before - this will increase the chances of having problems in the future. If possible, I would recommend that you bring proof that demonstrates you have ties to the US. This is most likely what they'll be looking for (minimize your ties to Canada).

How much time will have passed between the time you left Canada and your attempt at re-entry? Something to keep in mind is that if you are apart for too long, CIC may see this as a break in continuous cohabitation when you apply for PR as common law. Generally it's recommended that you keep time apart to less than three weeks. Once you are at three weeks or more, CIC officers will sometimes treat this as a break in the 1 year cohabitation requirement and tell you that you have to start counting your 1 year of living together again from scratch. I would keep the separation to 2 weeks if you possibly can.
