Timeline to Get Passport Back from CIC

Hello,

Me and my wife got email request from CIC to send our passports on July 24, 2017. We sent it next day, but we are still waiting for that. I am just wondering, how long normally it takes to get the passport back?

I am worried at this point because my wife's passport expiry date is just within six months. When we sent our passport on July 25, 2017, it still had validity about six months 4 days. However, the validity has now less than six months and would that be as issue in this case?

Thanks in advance for your information.

We submitted ours to VFS New Delhi and received our passports back on the 6th day (couriered). My passport has an expiry (about) less than a year from now. I'm leaving next month and get my passport renewed there post landing/recving PR card.

However, it will most probably be a problem since your wife's passport is expiring within 6 months.
Many airlines/outgoing immigration authorities deny passengers from boarding if their passports have a validity of less than 6 months.

What I would've done is applied for a new passport and would've sent it along with the old one (and a letter explaining why you're sending the two with your other docs requested during PPR). But now since you've already sent it, I would suggest you contact CIC immediately and inquire about the visa stamping status (assuming you're not from a visa exempt country and/or COPR has not been issued).
If CIC is willing to accept a new passport now and issue a COPR with the new passport number, then, you can apply for a passport renewal asap (hopefully you have an expedited passport renewal channel for 'urgent' cases in your country) and send it to CIC.

This is just my reading of the situation. Maybe someone else has a better take on your question.

P.S. AFAIK Even if the passport is from a visa exempt country the airlines/outgoing immigration will have a problem with your validity.
