Timeline for Seniors for Citizenship

Hi Folks,

How long does it take to get the Citizenship for my parents both seniors (I believe no test for them, one is 80+ another 75+)?

They applied for Citizenship in Aug 2011; CIC started processing on April 2, 2012.

I am in Vaughan area.

They'll probably get it this year. They will not have to do a test but they will have to show up at the test where they will have a little chat with a citizenship judge. Then they will have to attend the ceremony too.

Do they judge English capabilities? My dad can speak, but not mom. Will it affect her citizenship bid?

Cool stuff. Today I got the Citizenship documents checking request for 13 August..

What documents should I take, though they are mentioned e.g. Landing Papers, passports, birth certificates or affidavits, two photo id, PRs.

I will also take: proof of residence e.g. bank statements, house taxes, utility bills

Anything else? Any guidelines..

Just take all of the documents mentioned. That should be enough.

Ok Folks, the story goes as follows:

I took my parents for document verification on 13 Aug. The lady handed an RQ form to my dad to be filled out. He is more than 80 years old.

I do not understand why?

Anyways, now I have to fill in the information to my best of knowledge and see what happens.

Any guidelines, any things at stake etc.

RQ is issued to verify that the residential requirement is met. It has nothing to do with the age. Gather as much evidence as possible and submit the RQ. Request Travel History Record from CBSA and Health Record from Province ministry among others to submit as evidences.

Though I dont know whether its a coincidence or a pattern by CIC still would like to share that few weeks ago a similar case was reported at another forum where a person s parents ( both seniors) were granted RQ AFTER the test.

Maybe because of the major scandal earlier when the system was abused by crooks and dishonest PRs and a large number of citizenships had to be revoked, CIC is now going the other way and becoming way too careful, as a result of which genuine and innocent applicants are paying the price through more checks and longer delays.

Then there is also the issue of cuts in government and fewer staff likely taking on more work ? :'(

We should be thankful we made it when the points system was different. Now, the skilled program has been overhauled and qualifying to become PR has just gotten more complicated.
