Howdy,

I'm a US citizen who's looking to move to Ontario. I've got a university degree, plenty of funds, the whole nine yards, but I have just come to know that computer folks aren't fast tracked anymore. I may be up for an Information Services managerial position at a medical school in Ontario, which would be a perfect fit for me because I'm a computer systems engineer at probably the most prestigious medical school in the US (and the world) right now. When discussing immigration with my prospective employer I'd want to give them some kind of timeline because, surely, this will be the biggest stumbling block. I think that I could go in more quickly under a temporary work permit, but I think that risks me having to leave the country in a year. Anybody have any idea how long it would take to get in with my situation? Thanks!

Currently the doors are shut for software professionals as the quota of 1000 applications for this NOC has reached and need to see if CIC opens its doors again for software guys in July.
For the moment apart from temporary work permit there is Provincial Nominee Program, but it requires a job offer.
All the best for a job offer in Canada!!!

I dont see any problem with a work permit for you.
WP now takes three months :( bummer ...

if you are a US citizen , arent u covered by NAFTA ? wouldnt your workpermit be just a formality at the border under NAFTA ?

Thanks for the tip. It appears that NAFTA does help me, but now I've got to find out what the timeline of that would be.

Just Google nafta-temporary-work-permit-canada and you'll see the info.
