Time worked in Canada for PR??

Hi!

So to make a long story short, I have a friend who came to Canada 7 years ago, worked full time in various jobs (mainly hotels) but now has the horrible situation of his visa running out. On top of that he has been told he can't get residency because his lack of skilled work (he is a senior staff at a hotel vallet).

My question is, is there a way of making time spent working (full time, paying taxes, etc) work in his favour or is it all down to a points system that ignores time worked?

There is no immigration program that grants you PR simply because you've worked and paid taxes for a number of years in Canada.

If his job in Canada was not a skilled role (i.e. not NOC A, B or 0 skill level) - then he won't qualify for Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Worker (both through Express Entry). In that case his only option is to look at the requirements for the Provincial Nomination programs to see if he qualifies to apply through one of these.

scylla is right. Some provinces have immigration classes for low or semi skilled staff, in some cases certain hotel employees based on a shortage in their fields. If he is in the right province and his employer can sponsor him, he may have a chance.
