Hi experienced hands,
I would like to know how much time it would take (approximate) to get PR status for spouse after applying. And also kindly brief the step vise procedures for sponsorship application. I would like to learn the practical side of the family class sponsorship. There would be many previous discussions on the subject, pls forgive me for repeating. thanks in advance, regards,td

Can anybody interpret the following conditions of spousal spo? What proof I should provide with? Does it mean that I should have a permanent employment, own house, good bank balance etc...?
If you sponsor a family member to immigrate to Canada, you must provide proof that you can:

meet basic needs—such as food, clothing and shelter—for yourself and your family,
support your relative financially and
make sure your spouse or relative does not need to ask for financial help from the government.

have you read the guide and checklist for the sponsorship application? the sponsor does not need to provide proof of income, as there is no income requirement. by agreeing to sponsor, you are agreeing to be finacially responsible for the applicant for 3 years. all this means is if the applicant goes on welfare during this time, you as the sponsor is on the hook to pay it back.

if you have read the sponsor checklist you will see what documentation is required. proof of citizenship (copy of your passport), an "option c" form that is only available by calling the CRA, a letter from your employer, if available, application forms, etc.

There are people who are approved as sponsors who do not make an income because of whatever reason. The only financial concern from CIC's point of view seems to be whether the sponsor has used social welfare prior to applying for sponsorship. If so, it's the sponsor's responsibility to prove they no longer receive welfare, and are off the provincial list for welfare. As long as the sponsor hasn't used welfare in the previous 12 months or committed a serious crime, there is very little chance of being found ineligible. CIC is not going to approve sponsorship if they feel welfare would be drawn on immediately upon landing as a PR.
