If a US citizen visits Canada for a period of time (the stamp stating 6 months as the time period of visitation) and then returns to the USA at the end of the time period, what is the length of time required before being allowed to recross the border to visit again?

I am aware of the application for extension of a visit. I was just curious if there was a time requirement between visits. Thank you very much for your response.

I have been in and out of Canada twice in one day (land border), the first stay was in the US for about three hours, and the second was about six hours.
I did get sent to secondary and asked why, (I had two meetings in Buffalo and one in Niagara) but had no real problem in either direction.
But I am a Brit, hence my comment about no idea on the minimum timing for US citizens.
I would imagine that as long as you meet the requirements for visiting Canada, you should have no problem returning the same day.
