i think it is a bit strange that immigration to canada should take that long. according to the stats, they have about 1,000,000 backlog ( lets say ) and they allow about 265,000 people per year.
if we lets say allow 280,000 per year, still, it should be about 3-4years before all the backlogs are cleared.
i so want to go to canada asap . my cousin had applied in 2001 and hers was done in 8months and her office was nairobi.
can u believe she had her PR in 8months but now, the time frame has shot up so much.
it would be better if we were asked to submit all documents at the same time, so CIC could review them all at once and send the request to submit additional medicals or request passports.
i inquired from my consultant about immigrating to Australia and she said i can have it done within 6-12 months, some efficiency compared to Canadian immigration.
I so want to get my PR and starts my life in canada and call over my family but i guess i have to wait for another 2years to get my PR.
with all the fees we are paying, it would have been nice to obtain a much more efficient service.
let us know what the others think about it.
thanks .
Please note i have written this article with all due respect to canada and i dnt intend to be rude to anyone but if someone think it was over the top, i kindly apologize.

1. You should note that the backlog is for skilled workers applications.
2. In 2006 of 251,649 permanent residents admitted, 105,949 were in the economic stream (ie skilled worker,) Each application represents about 2.3 applicants (spouse and children) so that there were 44163 principal applications. So doing a little math, with 1,000,000 applications in the backlog, divided by 45K (no. of apps/per year) you are looking at 22 years to process them, if no further applications are received.
3. That is why there is a bill before parliament to have the Minister decide which job skills of the applicants will be given priority and those applications will be processed and the other returned. (For those received after 28/02/08)
