TIME FOR SPOUSE SPONSORSHIP

Hello.

I am from Pakistan, I just got my permanent residence and will be landing in next month. After that I need to sponsor my spouse who is also from Pakistan. I wanna know what is the processing time of sponsorship. However, when I checked with CIC, it says 33 months for visa office as Islamabad, Pakistan. But I heard that application of Pakistani citizen for spouse sponsorship is being handled by the London Visa office, UK and that takes 11 months.

Please help me know the correct details.

Hi Sarak,

I hope you have already informed CIC about your marriage status.

I don't think you can land now with your current visa which is invalid now. Do apply for your wife asap with all the required documents and get her visa stamped. Then you both can land as per your plan.

If you got married after having visa stamped then it is fine and you can land and sponsor your wife from canada after few months.

No - absolutely not. This is horrible advice that will ruin someone's life if followed.

You can't get married between receiving the PR visa and landing. If you get married between receiving the PR visa and landing - and still go ahead and land on the visa you have been issued - then you will never be able to sponsor your spouse and will also be committing misrepresentation (lying by landing as single when you are now married) which could result in your own PR status being revoked.

If you get married after your PR visa is issued then you only have one choice. You must return your PR visa and let the VO know you are now married. You must then submit all of the documents required to add your new spouse to your application and then wait for the VO to process these and reissue a new PR visa for both of you.

Are you already married?

If you want to land next month, then don't get married until after you have landed in Canada and become a PR.

If you are already married, then you must return your PR visa to the VO, submit all of the documents required to add your new spouse to the application, and then wait for the VO to reissue a new visa for both of you.
