I'm going to highlight those who have finished this process. And also, here's a small chance to our waiting list.. Everyone please post your expected month/year to received your visa and land!

I'll bet for February 2011 for my case. Pretty straight forward case: 4 years age difference (husband's older), both technology professionals, same interests, 10+ years of long distance relationship, no kids or previous marriages, no criminal offenses, no skin color difference, same religion, and never been illegal/denied access to any country. Yeah, we're perfect for each other!!

Does anyone know how long it takes for background checks? Do they check your background at every country you've visited?

EDIT: Well, well, well! Guess who just got her AOR in her email? Husband and I are ultra-excited!
I hope my AOR will start a rain of AOR's on all those going through Latin American VO's.

I dont know if I did the right thing, but someone can please advise?

I sent the passports 2 days ago to the Fort Erie office by XPresspost. However, I got notification today that the Delivery was attempted today but was not successful. A delivery notice card was left indicating where to pick up the parcel.

Now I am worried if they will ever bother to pick it from the post office. I know it is a Post Office dropbox in Fort Erie where the package was supposed to go to.

Can someone let me know what can I do now to make sure that the passport reaches them

My case is little complicated ...we met online in 2008 Dec, and married in April 2010 .. decision made on Oct 21 . 2010..
my hubby 2 years younger than me , different religion, background, and races, no dependent kid, im in health care profesion,and he is technology profession.

Only his background check and need to re-do the med check up ..it takes time... ;D
Life is beautiful... this year is the hardest period to everyone's experiences i bet!!

Passport being couriered to London tomorrow - hopefully back by Christmas !! 1-way Tickets booked for 17th May...but fiance will have to come back (no chance of getting me back here once I'm out!) if we haven't sold the house...does anyone know of anyone that wants a 2 bedroom place on the south coast, fully furnished including a lovely cat ?!?!? ;D

We're thinking April 2011 for us. VERY straight forward case. 6 year age difference (I'm older), she's Russian, I'm Canadian born. We met in Feb. 2010 and in the city she is from, as I was working there for over a year. She's well educated, has worked and lived/travelled abroad to many countries. First time being married for both of us...and although our time until getting married was short (5 months), our love is really perfect. The wedding was fully loaded with honeymoon in Barcelona. Can't wait till this is over and happy that I will visit her for one month started Dec. 18th!!!!!

So, when you got PPR and then got the Passport back, you drove to the border? when they sent your passport back, did they say you could now land or give you any paperwork so you could land?

Just want to understand more of what they do.

when i received my passport in the mail with the visa inside, it also included the COPR (confirmation of permanent residence), there was a letter saying i would need to go to the border to land, or make an appointment at a local cic office to land, but i didn't want to have to wait for that, so me and my husband drove to the border to land

I'm coming over to Canada to be with my husband in January and looked at one way tickets and it was actually £50 cheaper to get return tickets than one way - strange but true.

We always fly airtransat just because it is so much cheaper than anything else, generally about £350 return.

Seriously, I spend more of my life on Canadian time, as my husband doesn't get home from work until about 1-1.30am my time and that's the only time he can skype me. So I patiently wait up for him.

I really dono when I will get my visa. Our ND office is damn slow. They havent even opened my file, Not got AOR itself. so no idea when it l come

We have booked through Canadian Affair. When we went out last summer we flew return with Air Canada as they were £600....yep, £600 cheaper, this year they are over £1000 more 1-way?!?! How does that work?!?

Canadian Affair are the only ones flying to Edmonton from Gatwick, we've booked a hire car from the airport for a couple of weeks too so everything is on one booking - and now we have the fun of our families making a huge embarrassing hysterical scene at the departure gate - I can't wait. : The 07:30 flight time hasn't put them off, so I booked in at the Hilton for the night before (04:30 check in with two 2yr olds, not good!) but they STILL say they will come up to say goodbye...damn them.
