Dear friends i got my visa & land in vancouver.. may i know which kind of stuff we can take with us in the first arrival in canada? as i'm from south Asia, we need a lot of spices & also i know that there are enough spices in Indian groceries but i need to bring stuff from here...
please give me an idea whether i can bring them or not.... :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
dont know whether they'll pull all the stuff and ask us to throw them to the garbage...
my husband said that in the first arrival they allow us to take...
please advice if you guys have the same experience with this situation...
thanks in advance.....

With very few exceptions, you can only bring in the same goods as any other visitors. Anything that CBSA consider a risk to Canada will be confiscated and destroyed. Things like raw food and even home cooked food are always suspicious. See the CBSA website for more details.

I wouldn't worry about it or bother bringing them but it's up to you after you look and see what's allowed as the previous poster stated.. Vancouver is very diverse ethnically and culturally and not like many Canadian cities at all. There is a huge Asian and Indian presence there with tons of markets, restaurants, culture etc etc.. I'd bet you'd be able to get all the same spices as you are used to where you are from there no problem 8) Vancouver and Victoria, Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands are awesome! Amazing scenery and very diverse. Lot's of rain and gray in the winters though.

Chilli and curry powder can be found even in the least diverse neighbourhood in Canada. If you still want to bring spices, check with the CBSA and make sure what you're bringing is commercially packaged and unopened. Definitely do not bring any kind of fruit, vegetable, meat or unfinished wood. Again, check the CBSA.

Honestly though, I wouldn't bother.

which city are you going? you get those all in canada.

sorry didn't see vancouver. don't worry about indian spices there. you will find many stores in vancouver as well as surrey. don't bring store bought spices. if you need, bring homemade spices.

No, don't bring homemade spices unless you want to invite extra scrutiny with the CBSA.

never have a problem if you declare them. plus you are supposed to declare stuff on the first visit anyway. there will be problem if you want to sneak them in. anything except meat and dairy is usually good.

I believe that the fine is currently $1300 PER ITEM if they find undeclared food.

Sadly, we hardly ever see this used to the full extent on Border Security!

hi dear yes my husband also living there for more than 26 years and a citizen too so, he also told me that i can bring in the first arrival
but i wanted to clarify that with the recent experienced people here

and the other thing is i can bring 8 baggages and 4 hand luggages (for 4 persons)
so, what i can do with this special chance?
so, dear how do i pack them? its better to pack them the way it can be seen inside right?
thanks anyways
