OK So my husband has his medical, and is waiting for his FBI Background check. (they charged his account on May 21, still waiting DX )
I was told outland application is my best bet, through Ottawa (right?) or dose it go there automatically?
Can I start the application now and send the FBI stuff later?
Any tips on what to send for proof of love? We have a joint bank account is that sufficient or throw in my (NSFW) Skype logs in there too?

You need to present as much stuff as you have... my envelope was very heavy when I went to the mail office..... lots of papers...

you should begin to fill all the necessary forms....

Here you have all the requirements for Philippines is you don't have...

Good luck... by the way... this is a lot of work....

So, take it easy and just keep going until you have everything together....

Hi there! At first, where are you from? Outland applications are usually better, coz they are way faster than inland. Also, you can stay in Canada while applying outland:) For me, I'm from Poland, Im doing outland application that was sent to Warsaw Visa Office.
Start filling up your application because it can take some time. Im not quite sure if you can send FBI check later ;/
Here is a link with topic where i wrote all supporting documents i gathered. http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/common-law-do-we-have-enough-of-documents-t184663.0.html
I hope it will be useful :)

Sorry I forgot to say that I'm Canadian and helping figure this out for my American husband who will move with me. We were going to have him stay over while his application went through...but...he has a car and people tell me it wont be possible as they might reject him at the border. Might just do the application and wait, apparently it's not at all the 30 months I thought it was but rather 15 months AT MOST with possibility of making it shorter.

You're applying inland it seems, there's no reason to do so for an American. I heard inland applicants could delay the FBI submission, however.

Apparently the outland is faster with a chance to be even shorter than indicated if my application is perfect, also this means he doesn't have to move and stay in Canada with nothing to do (as he can't get work permit for what people say are several months for the first step)

Yes but if you're applying outland, i believe you have to submit the FBI with your package. Its kind of a mixed bag, some people claim they wrote a letter saying they will send it later and were successful, but some even had their applications returned. Technically, they did say that your application could be returned if youre missing documents, and the FBI is a required document, so I would take the safe route and just wait for the FBI check.

Hmmm than we shall wait, thank you very much for that advice.

OK this is what I got so far:
Outland application is the best way to go.

He cannot come and get a work permit to go looking for jobs as he waits for his application.

Send everything I can possibly think of about our relationship.

He should not attempt to move here until he gets his PR card because he needs to bring his car.

He has not received his FBI background check yet, they told him it was processed 3 weeks ago and charged him the amount on May 21st 2014, I see here that most say about 7 weeks total from the time they charge him right?

We got his medical back in mid November 2013, thinking it wouldn't take 8 months to get the FBI *censored word* rolling (lack of diligence on my husbands part "lets wait and see a bit longer" ) hopefully it will still be valid for when we submit the application. (12 months till it expires)

He can apply for any work permit he's eligible for, separate from the PR app. This includes:
- work he's qualified for under NAFTA agreement
- get an employer to go through LMO process to get him a closed work permit
- if he qualifies for US SWAP program

He should not attempt to move here until he gets his PR card because he needs to bring his car.
He can VISIT in Canada pretty much during the entire process. He can visit with his car also, as long as his US insurance provider is ok with that. They may have a policy on how long a car is allowed to be outside the US/state its insured in.

Yes you can submit medical with app as long as it's less than 12 months old. However, if the medical expires during the processing time, they can also ask you to do a 2nd medical exam at any time. So you should be prepared to do this since your medical will most likely expire before PR is approved.
