It depends on a. Which visa office you used as times vary and whether you went inland or outland. Inland first stage is about a year while outland was 81 days last I checked. Without that information, it's hard to give you an answer. Also there are often country-specific threads and month specific threads that also may be help to you. They will contact you by the contact method you chose whether it be email or postal unless your application for whatever reason is returned to you, then it's by mail. Once you get your spousal approval you will receive a UCI ( Client ID) for your sponsor and a file number so you can access the system but not before. I'm not sure if the sponsored person gets one too as I already had one.
Ok, so about 81 days from now ( give or take), you'll hear something from them regarding your status. If it goes beyond that, I'd advise calling your MP. I received my sponsor approval by email as that was the method I chose, it contained my file number and my sponsor's UCI, which you won't get until then. CPC-M does the first stage then forwards the sponsored person's part to the VO that processes that person's country of citizenship's applications. They will tell you which Visa office that your application was sent to and how to contact them of needed. Unfortunately, now all you can do is wait.
