Canada’s jobless rate edges up to 8.1 percent (AFP)

10 September 2010 OTTAWA — Canada’s unemployment rate nudged up to 8.1 percent in August as more people began the hunt for work, the country’s statistics service said Friday.

The economy created 36,000 jobs last month, but that was not enough to offset the number of people joining or returning to the work force, Statistics Canada said.
Figures provided some reassurance that July job losses may have been a blip in Canada’s otherwise stellar recovery from the global economic crisis.
“With increases of 68,000 in August, employment in educational services rebounded from a decline of a similar magnitude the previous month,” the agency said.
Gains in the service sector, construction and natural resources were partially offset by losses in manufacturing; business, building and other support services; and information, culture and recreation.

I agree to Khaleejtimes article . The number of jobless are higher than previous years in many categories. Several Companies/Firms are very tricky and exploiting the job hunters for their temporary, unpaid volunteer service. New comers are willing for such unpaid job only with a view to obtain Canadian job experience.
