The ending of the four-year rule for temporary workers

We’ve just announced the end of the four-year cumulative duration rule for temporary workers.

Effective immediately, the rule that temporary workers can only extend their work permits for up to four years before having to spend four years not working in Canada will no longer be applied.

The ending of the four-year rule will provide more time to workers who have come to Canada temporarily and are trying to qualify to apply for permanent residence, and employers will be able to retain experienced workers for longer, if they are still needed. The elimination of the four-year rule will also help speed up the processing of work permit applications.

The four-year rule did not apply to all foreign workers in Canada. Exemptions included workers in managerial (National Occupational Classification 0) and professional (NOC A) positions, workers in Canada under NAFTA, and workers with a provincial nomination certificate.

This rule is only applicable for some of the NOC's as mentioned above or applicable for NOC B and C, D as well? Please confirm.

Does that mean I can apply for work permit extension? I have a job in category A (NOC 1123) and my work permit expires soon (Feb. 2017). At 478 but with no draws I am losing hope

Did you already complete 4 years? and extending again with NOC A, I dont think so, there wont be any problems according to them.

I dont think it applies to PGWP holders. Its for TFWP only which is different to PGWP.

But not sure though.

Work permit is remain same for everyone either PGWP or TFWP or any other kind of permits.
