Hi guys,
I posted previously about our situation, and Leon provided some great advice.
I'm a TFW from NZ living in Toronto, NOC level A or B (I forget which), my now husband is a US citizen, not a skilled worker, living in the US.
We were married this weekend, something we were planning to do down the line anyway, to hopefully get him an OWP.
I crossed into Canada tonight from the US and had a chat to an immigration guy who gave me some info and advice.
He says:
- ours may be viewed as a marriage of convenience
- we should enter together
- we will need proof of our relationship
We'd planned to have him enter Canada this Friday, less than a week after marrying, to attempt his OWP.
I will not be with him.
Our marriage was very small, only us with 2 witnesses. No invites, big deal, anything. (this was because we plan to have the big event with my family in NZ)
My main question is - if he's denied on Friday, does he get to try again with me, and a big binder of our history together, or do we only get one shot?
He can't move here til august anyway, but we wanted him to get it Friday just for the peace of mind and to finally know it'll all work out.
So I'd like to know if we get more than one attempt, and whether our minimal wedding is going to ruin our chances.
We love each other and just want to live together so we don't have these major dramas when we try to return to NZ and apply for his residency.
Any comments and advice are immensely appreciated!
