Hi, I am wondering if anyone can assist or has gone through something similar.

I am married to a Canadian citizen who is currently living in Canada. I wanted to spend some time in Canada with my two children (his step children) and applied for a temporary visitors visa for 6month +. They have refused the applications and the following reasons were given.

Length of proposed stay

Purpose of visit

Current employement situation (I am not working )

The "other reasons" they stated in the letter was :

Intending immigrant, no documentary or other proof of dual intent provided. Must apply to be sponsored under the family class program. Intent presented to live permanently in Canada with spouse.

What would the next step be? Should I just do a spousal application under the family class or reapply?

The reason for my children's refusal was :
Purpose of visit
Length of proposed stay

Other reason give :
Require a study permit in order to study in Canada.

Any help would be appreciated.

Requesting a six month visit is far too long, demonstrates a lack of ties to your home country and makes CIC concerned that you have plans to remain in Canada long term. If you plan to reapply for the TRV, you should request a 2-3 week visit. I would also hold off reapplying until you have full time employment. I don't think you'll be approved while unemployed.

Generally speaking it's difficult to obtain a TRV if you are married to a Canadian since CIC typically believes your intent is to stay in Canada long term. I would focus on the PR application instead.

@scyllla thank you for the feedback. I think the PR is the way to go.

Just downloaded the forms etc now to put it all together and hope for the best. :)
