Temporary resident Visa To Work permit, Possible?

Hi,
I entered Canada on the 7th of September last year on a Visiting Visa, an was fortunate to write and pass the canadian Registered Nursing Exam, I am Licensed to work as a nurse in Nova Scotia, but i dont have a work permit to do so! I have tried to get hospitals and employers to give me promissory employment with which to apply for a work Visa, all to no avail! What would you advise me to do to get a work permit because i would like to stay here in canada and work and probably start the PR process!

If you want to qualify for a work permit, you'll need to find an employer who is willing to hire you and also willing to apply for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). A promissory note is not enough to allow you to apply for a work permit - you need an approved LMO. Detailed information on LMOs is provided in the link below:

To have the LMO approved, the employer must demonstrate that they advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian to hire for the role. Due to the amount of paperwork and waiting involved (and the fact that some LMOs are refused), many employers aren't willing to go through the LMO process or consider foreign candidates for open roles. This is especially true during tougher economic times. This is probably why you're struggling to find an employer who's willing to work with you.

There's really no easy solution. You just have to keep applying for positions and talking to employers and hopefully you'll get lucky.

I will apply my workpermit outside canada. Now my problem is i dont have a us visa. Can I get a Us visa while my status is Visit visa only in canada?

Hi Lucian! Where are you from? When you arrived in the airport, where you sent to the immigration office for questionings? How many months did they give you for your stay? I think we are on the same boat, I will be taking an exam also in Nova Scotia under TRV but I would like to have the max 6 months. Can I pm you? Please reply. Thank you so much! =)

Unlikely that the US will issue a B1, you won't know though until you make an appointment and apply.

Hi

I am travelling to Canada on a TRV but once I get there I might have a job lined up. They are willing to do the LMO etc but what I would like to know is:
Is it possible to change my tourist visa to a work visa while remaining in Canada.
Am I allowed to work while my work visa application has been submitted and is being processed?
IF not then how long do work visa's usually take to get processed.

1) Since you are not visa exempt, you must apply through the visa office in your home country.
2) No - not possible. Doing so would be illegal.

what if somebody has a visitor visa for the US can he or she go there with all the supporting documents and apply for work permit at buffalo or any of the other consulates in the US - ofcourse with all the supporting documents they would need including lmo, job offer letter etc...
