Temporary Resident Visa Issue

Hi,

I came to Canada in August 2013 for a 2 year Master's program. After finishing my master's in April 2015, I applied for the 3 Year work permit. But, I only got a work permit for 18 months only. So, I complained it to CIC and they told me they will look into it and resend me the updated work permit.

However, by that time I had already applied for the Temporary Resident Visa which is valid till June 2016. However, I got the corrected Work Permit of 3 years after a couple of months. Now, I have an issue. My Temporary Resident Visa is expiring in a month, even though I have a valid work permit till October 2017. I have placed my file in the Express Entry Program. So, would that affect my file or should I reapply for the Temporary Resident Visa? It's so confusing.

Hi

You don't require a valid TRV to be in Canada or to apply for PR.

That said, you should always have a valid TRV just in case. Many people who have gone home for an emergency or other urgent circumstances have found themselves stuck outside of Canada for weeks or months waiting for a TRV.
