Temporary Resident status about to Expire / PR application in process and pendin

My visitor record is valid until July 14, 2016. Applied for PR on Feb 8, 2015 and is still pending, haven't seen any updates on the application since February.

I am thinking of sending a paper application for extension of Visitor Record given it has a longer processing time and gives me more time to stay in Canada while PR gets processed.

Have a question, if Permanent Residency IA gets approved after expiration of current temporary resident status, I'll be on implied status if I have a temporary resident extension application in process and submitted before expiration. Can I still go the border and get my landing done? Given I won't have any valid temporary resident papers, would this be a problem? Or would I have to go home and then re-enter Canada to do my landing?

Any thoughts / advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello mate, you can still do your landing while on implied status. You have a status, you are not out of status. They can check everything on their computer in front of you.

Now I am going to share my experience with you, so you know you have one more option. Now please do not rely on my experience and do your best research before you take action. And this only applies if you are extending your record for the first time. Meaning you already had a year or 6 month and this is your first time extending it under the same category.

I was in the same boat as you are now. I was weeks away from my PR and my visitor record was expiring, so couple of days before the expiration, instead of sending the documents, I went to the border (where I got my first visitor record - long story don't ask) and kindly asked them for another 6 months of visitor record. The border agent told me that because I am days away from expiration and my PR is getting super close to get finilized they are going to issue me another 6 months so I can await the PR outcome. But usually they wouldn't. Well they most certainly didn't do it with a smile but they did it.

Couple of points here:

1/ CBSA officers at the border are capable of issuing you a visa or temporary record if you have sufficient documents relevant to what you are asking for, in case of a visitor record you will need exactly the same documents checklist that you need on paper application. Sufficient funds, etc.
2/ Every officer is different so every applicant, they could have told me to go back and apply online or on paper. But they helped me out. I think my attitude helped too.
3/ Flag polling is not a big deal, you walk to USA you get a refused entry paper, you walk back, and talk to an officer for processing your application. Worse comes to worst, they won't extend it. They will let you in, and ask you to do it online or on paper. Also this flag polling is a good exercise for your PR flag polling, it will wash away all the stress.
4/ You can think about this, but please do not take action in regards to my experience. Do a little bit more of research.
5/ I don't know of anyone whom has done what what I did. In fact whenever I tell the story to someone they freak out and they call me lucky. But honestly having done 3 flagpoles, I found it very easy going and smooth. The officers are not there to refuse you entry, they are there to process your entry. Then again depending on your attitude and the officer outcomes might differ.
6/ Last but not least, I did this in 2013 & 2014, rules might have flipped upside down and changed completely. So do your research.

Best of luck,

I am just about to submit a paper application for extension on my visitor record.

Hopefully when I get my PR, I'll go to the border for PR flag polling and take evidence that Is submitted an extension of my temporary resident status before expry.

Thanks for your advice and response.
