Hi,

I'm creating a new topic because I haven't find one describing my situation.

I'm a Canadian Citizen married to a foreigner. I'm currently waiting for my Permanent Residency Visa and my work permit here, in her country which I should get soon.

Since I'm just waiting here (I can't work, I don't have my work permit yet) and my wife will be on vacations soon, we are looking to go to Canada for 2-3 weeks to visit my family. Also, since we might visit Canada more then once in the next few years, we might just ask for a multiple entry visa.

So, I know she needs a TRV and to support her application, the Embassy told me I can provide any documents to prove she'll (we'll) come back here so we are planning to send those documents:

  • Invitation Letters (from myself & from my Dad since we're planning to stay at his place)
  • Letter from her job
  • 2 photos
  • Payment
  • Wedding certificate
  • Copy of my Immigration card issued by the government here (so I can stay in the country until I receive my actual visa) + the immigration registration stamp in my passport.
  • A copy of my visa requests form (letter from lawyer) with the seal of the country (proof the documents were presented and received)
  • My birth certificate (to prove I'm Canadian)
  • The required application form
  • A document describing our itinerary (with who we're going to visit with relationship with us)
  • Copy of my (her's as well ?) bank account record ?

Any comments ? Anything else we should send ?

How good would you evaluate our chances to get it (for what our personal guesses worth ;))?

Thanks a lot !

Hiya BamBamBing,

Me and my wife are planning to visit Canada this summer. After reading lots of stories of her fellow countrymen being denied visas, we really fretted and worried about her visa application. We put a ton of work into it. In the end, the slapped a visa in and sent it back to us in less than a week.

You are both planning to live in her country, so I think you got the most popular denial reason (can't satisfy the visa officer the applicant will return) covered. From what is sounds like, I really don't think you have anything to worry about.

If you want to add something to the application, I guess some photos of you two spanning time together wouldn't hurt, especially if your wife comes from a country where people might be tempted to have a marriage of convenience with a Canadian.

I think adding that thought is a good idea; can't hurt. Didn't do us any good though -- my wife's TRV was denied. :'(

You were in a similar situation than me/us?

I hate that stupid process so much. I'll spend more preparing all the f*****g documents than the actual 2 weeks we want to spend in Canada....

I agree that it probably wouldn't hurt. I suppose it's probably a good idea to pull out all the stops for the first application, since I suspect if she gets it the first time, going again will be fairly easy, and if she gets denied, then re-applying might be more difficult.

I wrote a 2 page letter of invitation, and threw every argument I could think of to convince them she was coming back in it. I really have no idea if they even read the letter.

I know your frustration, but try to think positively. I suspect that couples with the biggest difficulties are ones where one spouse is living/working in Canada and you're trying to convince them that the other spouse is only visiting temporarily.

My situation is that I live in China with my wife, waiting ... waiting ... waiting for her residence visa. Meanwhile we applied for a visitor's visa to allow us to visit my family in Canada. We pointed out that my wife would not overstay the visitor's visa because that would jeopardize the PR application -- and we had paid the entire amount, not just the first installment. Application denied for lack of evidence she had storng ties to China.

CIC has an official policy to allow "dual intent" (i.e. a would-be visitor can intend to exit Canada on time for now, even though he/she plans to settle in Canada eventually). However, I suspect that a Visa Officer becomes more suspicious if he/she knows about the long-term plan to come to Canada. How strong can the ties to the mother country be, if the applicant intends to sever them eventually?

If so, then the "dual intent" policy is a lie.

Let's all get to Canada, then vote for a political party that promises to fire all bureaucrats and start hiring again with real human beings!!

(OK, OK, that's a fantasy, but it allows me to blow off steam.)

Yes ! :D

Multiple entry valid for the same period of time than my temporary immigration card here!!

Finally, the document we added was a letter from my wife describing the cost for my PR here (vs the cost of PR in Canada and that she would be staying there legally with the right to work), saying she doesn't have family or friends in Canada and that we travelled together in the past (with passport copy showing the stamps).

Also, at the end of the document, she wrote in bold that she has no intention of live in Canada now or in a near future
