Hi all,

I see the great responses and am really hoping someone can help me.

I am a dual British-Candian citizen living in the UK with my partner who is British.
We are hoping to move over to Canada for at least a year or two - test the water and see if we want to move their permanently.

I know I am able to do this (being Canadian) and am able to work, but my partner will need to apply for... and this is where I get stuck.

As much as we would love to stay in Canada, we felt we should test it out for a little while first, which is why PR is a bit daunting as it is a lot of work if only for a little while- or is it worth it even for that?
Temporary visa is a possibility but not ideal as we will be coming from 9 months travelling in Asia and therefore lining up a job for him and being in the UK during the application process is not ideal.
Would the International Experience be the only way to approach this?

Sorry if this is all very confusing!

As a British citizen, your partner would be visa exempt, and therefore able to enter Canada for up to 6 months with no visa. Prior to the end of that initial 6 months, he can apply to extend his stay, providing proof of his initial entry, availability of funds to support himself and so on.

If he's going to work, he can apply for the IEC if he meets the criteria. Be advised that the quota for 2012 is closed, so you would be looking at applying for 2013, which opens this fall. Furthermore, to initially qualify, he must be between 18 and 30 and be able to demonstrate he was physically resident in the UK for the 3 years prior to making the application.
