Temporary Foreign Worker

Hello, my relative in Alberta is a Temporary Foreign Worker whose visa will expire next month. Her job classification is considered as "low skill". She had been working with the same employer for 2 years.

My question is, can she apply to change conditions so she can extend her stay in Canada and then eventually be a permanent resident?

Any suggestions, comments and insights will be appreciated.

Your relative should start the process now. If the job type requires LMO, the employer should start advertising for the position now. The entire process from ad to WP takes more than one month. Alberta has AINP; her job type maybe eligible. As soon as a LMO is sent in her favour, she can start the process (if her status is expiring) (sorry can't find the CIC site with the particular bulletin on what to do if the TFW's status is expiring in a month, but she can call CIC), attach a cover letter explaining her situation.

Right, in order for her to stay, the employer needs to apply for a new LMO and she then applies to extend her work permit. However, in order to get PR as a low skill, her job would have to be listed under the AINP low and semi skilled class. If it is, the employer can sponsor her. If it isn't she would either need a low skill job that is listed or a skilled job. With a skilled job, the employer can sponsor her under AINP or she can work on the skilled work permit for 2 years and then apply herself under CEC.

Thanks for the reply.I just spoke to my relative and she said that her employer offered her another contract and they are waiting for her new work permit. She was also offered a managerial position from another company which fall in the skilled category. Hope all will go along in her favor.
