Not sure if this is the correct place to post. I've searched and learned some about the import process but can't find comprehensive answers to my questions.
I'm here on a 2 year permit. I've already driven into Canada (Alberta) with my vehicle, however was told at the border I didn't need to import my vehicle. My car is still registered and insured in US, however I need Alberta insurance and registration as I no longer have an address in the US.
I know I can temporary import my vehicle because I am on a temporary work permit, however a few questions:
1) Do I still need to export my vehicle from the US in order to then temporary import into Canada?
2) Do I need to handle the temporary import process (Form 1?) at a land border crossing, or could I do this at an airport CBSA (I'm close to Calgary).
3) Do I first need to obtain Canadian auto insurance before I can register in Alberta? Or do I find insurance, then register? The insurance/registration process seems like a chicken-or-the-egg scenario!
Thanks for any advice you can provide.
