Hello!

I'm going to be applying for PR this year, but I've only really just begun the major steps. But I have a few questions:

1. Let's say I've worked at a company in Canada for 4 months as a full-time temp, and I work the other 8 months as an 'actual' full-time employee. My location and job duties are exactly the same, NOC-wise, but basically just under a different contract. Will I be able to count this as one year of work? (I had a free consultation with an immigration lawyer and she said that it would be fine, but I'd love a second opinion because I'm just worried...)

2. I'm on an Open Work Visa right now, my second and last year of a Working Holiday visa. I can't apply for a third year of this through the same program.
If all goes well, I will be at my job for a year at the end of August. My Visa expires in the middle of September. If I extend my work visa via applying to bridge my open work permit (as I expect I'll have to), will I have a shot of getting ITA? (EDIT: Oh, after a bit more research, it seems you can't really extend the IEC visas...? Well, I guess I'd need to do the LMIA thing? Hmm)

3. Does it matter when I get my job letter from my employer? I don't want to wait till the last minute for this (see: the 3 week window I have above). Like if my boss or whomever writes a letter TODAY saying that 'snoot started at XYZ on <DATE>' and I hold on to the letter for months, and then apply one year after <DATE> using that letter, would that fly?

Let me know if there's anything else you need to know!
Thank you all so much, you seem like wonderful folks <3

1 - Surprisingly enough, that lawyer is correct.

2 - Whether you have a shot depends on your CRS score, have you tried to use the online calculators to estimate your score?

3 - I personally wouldn't get the reference letter until you've completed at least a year of work experience but up to you.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Oh, I hadn't even seen that calculator! Thanks for pointing it out.
Apparently, even if I only do okay at the language test (7 average) I'll have 488, which isn't too bad? Lovely.

I guess as a follow-up: is there anything else I can do before the end of August, my one year point?

I've already registered for an IELTS GT, and I had my school in the U.S. start to send my transcripts to WES for the ECA. I understand that I need to wait until closer to the day I apply for EE to start the process for my police certificate. The job letter should be closer to my one year point as well. I'd get the medical exam after I get an ITA.

What else am I missing? If I'm already hired, a LMIA isn't a *requirement*, but will get me more CRS points, correct?

If you need a police certificate from the US you should definitely be aware that the processing time is about 3 months (unless you're a US citizen or US permanent resident, if such is the case then you can use a channeler which is a much faster process). If possible try to have it ready by the time you expect an ITA.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/medical-police/police-certificates/how/united-states.html

Also for any other countries for which you spent more than a total of 6 cumulative months since the age of 18 you'd also need a police certificate.

Forget about LMIA, although it does grant 50 extra points the bottom line is that your score is so high that you do not need it.
