Hi,

I am Telecom Tech Lead working for a US based Company in India. I have 7 yrs of telecom exp. Also have been successfully involved in deployment of our FDA router solution for a US Tier 1 Operator. I have travelled a lot to US for this project. Would appreciate any pointers for Jobs in Telecom. Also I believe Till Jan there wont be much hiring in Telecom. Is it easy to get LMO for this field.

Thanks,

Sujeet

There are lots of telecom companies in Kanata, as far as I know. But I'm not sure about LMO from them!

Thanks for the Info. Hopefully will make some headway. Hopefully the LMO is not that tough. I am confident of doing well in Canada as I have good exp in Telecom. Language is not an issue. Also I have stayed in US for 3 years during my Masters. So adjusting to Canada should'nt be a big issue.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Canada doesn't have as many telcom companies as the US. There are pro's and con's to this, but new players are coming into the industry all the time. Some are only focussing on the mobile field and others are looking at residence/work needs.

Some of the Canadian players include:

Rogers (which includes Fido)
Bell Canada
Telus
Shaw Communications
Virgin Mobile
Wind Mobile

I see that the telecom job market in canada is moderate with a moderate number of jobs compared to IT from my research - but I guess there is still a shortage of qualified telecome, wireless, network engineers e.g. embedded software developers.

My main difficulty is that I dont see jobs posted often in this field compared to IT and I fear for job mobility e.g. if I am suddenly made redundant - what does everyone think???

I do think there is a smaller market here, and what will be important is for you to highlight your other 'complemtary' skills.

Canada is a little different from the US, where we don't have as many Telcom competitors in the market, it's a pretty small industry really and often employees move from one of the bis 2-3 firms back and forth.
