Get any scanner that's less than 5 years old. Whatever one you get it will have a low resolution option. Also have a look at Amazon and search by average reviews for a better idea on the best option.

No need for very high resolution scanners. A nominal one will do. Remember that you have 4MB for one document and some of them will be consisting of multiple pages.

Any normal scanner will do given you have an option to change the DPI .. Be aware of the 4Mb limit and if the pdf goes large you can always use small pdf. I usually scan hi res with a higher DPI which is not necessary but in times the file size goes high I change the DPI to 100 is its fine

Consider the size of your documents. If all your documents are of A4 size or smaller then a home scanner would be ideal. Some documents especially degree certificates are larger than A4. Large scanners are usually available in offices, libraries and internet cafes. If you dont have access to them and need to scan larger documents then it's better to buy a scanner than is larger than A4.

You don't have to put documents on a scanner one by one, it just feeds through and scans a stack of papers itself.

Bingo....

as you said you have a lot of scanning to do...it'll make your job easier....
one more thing don't go for an inkjet printer....they are the cheapest but ink is expensive (very expensive)....

laser printers are little expensive but ink is cheaper...so these are a better investment in a longer run....and that's what you need for your daily use.....

On inkjet printers u can save money by using ink that can be injected into cartridge. Only downside it works only with black ink.
