Hello everyone,

I been in canada for a whole year now and love it! Its so great here....

Well I landed in a big bump in taxes.
I went to HRBlock like I always have in the states and I am completely shocked to death.
I am being charged 500+ dollars to file my U.S taxes. I dont know if I will even owe them anything yet! I worked like maybe a month or two in the states before moving to canada.
I currently reside in Ottawa, ON.

I was wondering if there was anywhere I can go thats a lot cheaper and know what they are doing? I would file online myself but I dont trust myself not to completely screw up horribly. I would really appreciate it!

$500 seems about right for filing US tax returns from Canada. Expect that it will cost you quite a bit more here than in the US to file US taxes since most tax professionals in Canada don't understand the US tax filing process enough to submit a tax return. You're paying more because you're getting a specialized service.

One option could be to have a tax professional located in the US file your taxes. This should reduce the costs.
