I live in Canada (foreign worker) and plan to do a trip to the US. I plan to buy a motorcycle helmet (USD $535) and a personal locator beacon (emergency GPS notification device, USD $250)

Now I'm wondering which kinds of taxes and duties do I have to pay upon entering Canada with these US bought goods?

I think for the helmet I don't have to pay PST because it's a safety equipment and I think same goes for the Personal locator beacon. I also think the Helmet is exempt from duty for the same reason. The Personal Locator Device too? I am a bit lost with the many conflicting pieces of information I have found on this topic so far.

Do you have a link about safety equipment being exempt ? You have probably seen the sliding scale for allowances based on time out of Canada ? http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/pdt-pdt-eng.html so in theory if out of country for 48 hrs or more should be fine anyway. As with any country if in doubt declare as is better than a fine.
