Can I ship my car to Canada? I bought the car in the UAE but the country of manufacture of the car is Canada so would this allow me to ship it or it has to be initially imported from Canada to comply with Canadian specifications?
Unless the car is really something special like a collectors item, it is not worth importing it. Cars are fairly inexpensive in Canada, plus is the steering wheel on n the left side? might be pretty uncomfortable to drive here if not?
No, you can’t. The only exemption is for cars over 15 years old and it would need to be something special (as previously noted) to make it worth while.
Vehicles manufactured for foreign markets
You cannot import a vehicle made in North America if it was built and certified to meet the vehicle standards of a foreign country (other than the U.S.). The vehicle would not have complied with Canadian safety standards at the time of main assembly, which is required by the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
The Act also does not allow you to modify such a vehicle to meet Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
