Take online courses outside Canada without study permit

Hi, everyone. Since the study permit's processing time delays so much, I'm afraid I can hardly get my permit before my intake in May 2021. Do you think it is possible to take online courses outside Canada while waiting for my study permit?
But there is still a risk of my study permit being declined.
