Hello, I'm an international student in Montreal, and my courses begin on January 10th. I'm currently enrolled in an AEC program, but I want to switch to a DEP because I've learned that it's challenging to obtain permanent residency (PR) and a PGWP with a 12-month program like mine. Is it possible for me to change colleges and programs without the risk of having to leave?

Are you a new student to Canada who is starting studies in January or have you already completed at least one semester of studies in Canada? If it's the first, then you would need to apply for a brand new study permit in order to switch schools. You cannot switch on your existing work permit.

You need a new study permit if you have not studied at the school on your permit. Easier to change after completing a semester but look at Quebec CSQ rules.

If you start and complete a full semester at your original school, you can then switch to a new school the following semseter without getting a new study permit. You will need to notify IRCC when you switch schools.

Also make sure you don't start working until you start your classes in January.
