I am planning to land in Torronto somewhere in November with two kids. I checked kijiji and the basement rents are around 800. So if i keep my monthly expenses to bare minimum, what is the estimated monthly expenses I should be keeping in mind. Mark it, i would like to cut on any luxury, barely survival budget I am asking about.

Yup ,1600$ is pretty realistic.However,I do believe you would be aware of the fact, that you will not have any health insurance for the initial 3 months so do not forget to bring some basic medicines with you ,especially for kids,from your home country.Medicines are pretty expensive here ,a simple cold syrup/ibuprofen costs at least 10-13$.

We are planning to vacate our basement apartment in October. The rent is $900 (all inclusive). The apartment is very close to St.Clair west subway station, and so easily accessible. All major banks, No Frills grocery store etc are nearby. Let me know if you are interested
