Support letter requirements for Multiple entry TRV

Hello,

I want to apply for multiple entry TRV for Canada. I have following questions:

(1) If I indicate the the purpose of my visit is tourism, is it logical with my desire to get multiple-entry visa?

(2) If I do indicate tourism as the purpose, do I still have to provide details on who I am going to visit during my stay in Canada? This details are asked in the IMM 5257 form

(3) Would it be more logical to indicate "Business Affairs" as the purpose, since I need a multiple entry visa?

There are no foolproof applications. It does not matter if you apply for multiple entry visa. In all probability you'll be given multiple entry but valid only for 6 months. You should have a good travel history considering you're applying as a tourist. An invitation letter from a citizen of Canada will help but there have been people who were able to get multiple entry visa to Canda because they have shown good travel histories without attaching invitation letter.

Given this history, should I say yes or no to the question that asks me if I ever applied for any Canadian visa in my TRV application?

Also, when I apply for multiple entry TRV, what date I should indicate as intended date of travel in the application?

Answer "yes" and give the details on the provided area. And place no on the "have you ever been refused...." if you've never been refused a visa/entry to Canada otherwise answer correspondingly (yes or no). As to the date, place when your intended trip is (the initial). If you are in NYC or close, you can go early to the Canadian consulate there and you'll have an answer before the office day is over (refusal or visa if granted)

Thanks so much for your help. Actually I checked with my HR, and I now know why I need to apply for a TRV. Let me give you more details. My current h1b in the US expires in September and my employer wants me to go to Canada for a year and come back afterwards. I am told that I have to apply for a TRV so that the subsidiary of my current employer in Canada can file for a labor survey there, which if cleared I can then apply for work permit. Given this, should I indicate the purpose of my visit as "Other" and provide brief details in my TRV application form? or Should I stick with either Tourism or Business Affairs?

If you intend to come and work here why not let the "subsidiary" apply for a LMO for you and then you apply for a WP from the US. The "subsidiary" just have to make sure they complied with the requirements of HRSDC regarding advertisement to show proof they tried to recruit Canadian Citizens/Permanent Residents. If your work is IT related the employer may not need to apply for LMO; they just have to send you a job offer and then you can use that to apply for WP/TRV(W).

Given this history, when I fill out my application for work permit, should I say yes or no to the question that asks me if my visa has been rejected before.

actually good travel histories is not the main thing - mostly everything depends on the officer in the visa office. I personally know people who managed to get a multiple entry visa without any travelling history at all right on the very first visa application to visit Canada.

Thanks for your responses. Just a follow-up.. I am still wondering if it can be called refusal of visa in my case. I never applied for the second stage of my permanent residence visa in the Buffalo office. And if I never applied for something, how can I be refused? In fact, if you read the last statement in the paragraph below that I received from them, it talks about negative determination of eligibility for processing" and not the negative determination of outcome after processing. I was thinking that the refusal to something comes only after processing. Does this still count for visa refusal?. I know I am getting into technical definition of words here and just so you know, I am not trying to challenge your answer; just making sure that I don't say anything that can negatively affect my work permit application.

I had a similar situation. I couldn't call it a refusal, but in the visa office at the interview the visa officer said that if the decision is not positive, they consider it to be a refusal. they also said that it will be very difficult for me to receive a visa now on the reason that I was interested in getting a PR status in Canada and that meant to them that I had all reasons to overstay my visa if it was granted.
that was my story that lead to two refusals in a row.
