Hello,

In dire need of help.

My MiL entered Canada January 2019 (2nd entry) on a supervisa and was given another 2 years to stay in the country. Her passport's expiry is good until Dec 2021 along with her supervisa stamp (5 years) that matches her passport expiration. We're waiting for her PGP 2019 to go through but of course with COVID, everything got delayed.

Question here is, will it be a problem if we renew her supervisa for another year just until before her passport expires in Dec 2021? I'm worried that they might reject since by the time we apply for a renewal, passport validity is less than a year.

Also, will it be a problem if she travels back to home country with a few months of passport validity? I always though that when travelling internationally that it should be at least 6 months.

Thank you in advance!

With regards to your first question of applying for a new supervisa - IF they approved it, it would be only to the end of the validity of the passport.

With your second question - if her home country will allow her to re-enter with a few months' validity on passport (can't see why they would deny a citizen simply because the passport is near expiry) then you're fine. Canada has no exit immigration, so they can leave if they can make it into the airport and if the airline will take them.
