Hello Seniors,

I had a question. Is the SuperVisa medical insurance only needed for the first year when applying for the visa? And after that when my parents visit, it is not mandatory for the next year? Or is it a requirement for anytime they enter Canada?

Can I buy regular Visitor insurance for them (less than $100,000 coverage) for the next years?

Thanks.

1. This what CIC says"

proof that you have private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company valid for at least one year and that it
covers health care, hospital costs and your return to your home country,
covers you for at least $100,000 and
is valid for each entry into Canada.

You must be able to show the port of entry officer your proof of private medical insurance.

Hello I also have the same confusion. What if they have the super visa already but really do not intend to stay longer? what if they just stay with us for 3 months and then go back home? And when they come back to Canada after that just like a regular tourist, will they be required to get a medical insurance again even if their purpose is only to see us in a short period of time? Hope you can clear out our confusion.

In theory yes you have to be able to provide the immigration authorities with a proof of 1 year insurance. In practice if it's not the first visit - it is possible to apply just for the duration of stay. There is no clear guideline for this process so people have managed to use insurance with shorter duration and less coverage. Remember that you still need to have reasonable coverage - $50,000 for short term visitors should be the lower limit.

If you want to explore the options- look up the visitors insurance instead of the super visa insurance.

I have same question, my parents came last yr on super visa and went back after 5 months. They are planning to come for this yr as well for few months, do I have to get the medical insurance for 1 yr from canadian insurance company or they can get it from back home and come here?

If you already have a Super Visa and wish to re-enter Canada, you do not have to purchase a medical insurance for 1 year, but you still need to have medical coverage for the whole duration of their intended stay.
