Super Visa vs Visa Extension

Hello everyone,

We are a family of 2 - my husband and I. My mother (belongs to India) has visitor visa that expires May 2022. She is arriving Canada in October - will be her first visit.

Question:
1. Should I apply for extension or super visa? When would be best time to apply as soon as she arrives or I should wait for 2-3 months after she arrives here.
2. What minimum income is required?
3. Is it compulsory for her to have health insurance - for this visit Oct 2021?

Please advise.

Thank you.

1. She can only apply for a supervisa from India.
2. You will need to look up the level of income needed for a family of 3.
3. Nobody should be travelling Canada without health insurance unless they have millions in savings and have the savings to pay a large hospital bill if necessary without really hurting them financially Technically it is not required but it is a very bad decision not to get insurance.

It looks like your mother was denied a TRV in 2019. Does her passport expire in 2022 or was she only given a short TRV? If her passport doesn’t expire in May 2022 that means there are concerns about her plans to return home. Would really suggest she stick to a 6 month visit to provide proof that she will return home and has sufficient ties to India. If not, it will likely create difficulties getting future TRVs or a supervisa. If you have been previously denied a TRV or if you get a short TRV that is essentially IRCC giving you a chance to prove that you are visiting Canada but will return home.

I see thank you very much for your advice, I will buy an insurance for her.

I am surprised you found out about refused TRV in 2019 :),

Agent in India had presented my younger brother as main applicant and my mother as secondary applicant so the application was rejected in 2019. We tried again and applied for only my mother and she got as long as I had at that time May 2022, I was on work permit until May 2022. I got PR in June 2021.

I understand I won't be able to apply Supervisa for her until she goes back to India and it is safe for her to go back at the end of her stay to get Supervisa in future. But considering my status changed as PR and my younger brother in India, I would like to know how likely it is for her to get an extension once she arrives here?

Appreciate your time.

Impossible to say. If she is able to leave your younger brother for 6 months he is no longer a strong tie.
