My parents got their supervisas in 2022 and had to renew their passports in 2024. Does this mean their supervisa has expired? I don't get the difference between a 10 year super visa and one that only goes up until passport expiry.

A supervisa and the length of a visit with a supervisa are different things. When did your parents last enter Canada under their supervisa? Is there a date on their passport from that entrance into Canada? As already noted they need to return home and then they can apply for a new supervisa.
