My dad has his super visa expiring in a month. They gave him the visa until the expiration of passport only, so he ended up with a short supervisa. But when he entered the country last time, he got stamp for 2 years (till September 2017), so it seems that he can stay till Sept. '17, but he can only leave and come back till Sept '16 (when his visa expires).
The problem is that we have a trip out of Canada we want to make this winter. Looks like if we do that, he will not be able to come back unless he gets a new visa. What's the best way to avoid this? It's unlikely he will be able to get the visa in the place we will be traveling to - it's an exotic resort destination with no infrastructure. So my understanding is that we need to secure a visa before the trip. Can this be done from Canada? Or maybe applying online to a consulate in the US and just going there to get the passport stamped with a visa? I would appreciate any ideas on how to make this process simpler.
Thanks!
