I originally posted this on the Visitors forum, but have received no reply or comments. So am hoping that someone will help if posted here. Thanks very much.

My Partner and I are in Canada on a Super Visa, and our first 2 years ended in June 2014. I applied to extend our stay for another 2 years which should take us to June 2016. The application to extend was submitted, medicals were done together with extention of Medical Insurance. When we received our visitors records we saw that our stay has only been extended another 10 months which will take us to April 2015. I have phoned the CIC offices twice to enquire "where we went wrong" or what I could have done differently to get the full 2 years. The first time I was told it was because we went out the country in Feb/March 2013, to visit my daughter in the UAE. The second time I was told that there was nothing wrong with my application and it is the decision of the officer looking at the application. Is there any recourse for us? A person or entity that can assist? We were advised that we can apply again before April 2015 for another extention, but that costs us more money and the exchange rate is not very favourable for us.

There is nothing you can do to change the amount of time you have been given. How long an extension you are given is entirely up to CIC (having a Super Visa doesn't guarantee an extension). If you wish to stay longer, you will have to apply for another extension before this extension expires in April 2015.

Thank you for your reply, although CIC had already told us this, a friend advised us to contact The Ombudsmans office. But when going into the web sites it did not seem like The Ombudsman office would handle issues such as this. But we just wanted to make certain. We certainly do not want to "rock the boat" but am also hoping to stay a little longer with our family.

Correct - the Ombudsmans office will be of no help to you.

Again, if you want to stay longer, you should just apply for another extension next year.
