Hello everyone,

My mother is here in Canada on supervisa since June 2019. Shes got a stamp on her passpor which allows her to stay till June 2021 (2 years).

1) is it possible to extend her stay ? ( as I don’t want her to travel due to current COVID situation ) if yes how long can she possibly get an extension for ?

2) Assuming we don’t apply for an extension if she leaves Canada , how soon can she Re-enter ? Would a Re-entry grant her 2 years of stay ( Her supervisa is valid till 2027 )

Any information on this is really appreciated. Thanks in advance .

1. You can always try to extend. Impossible to say how long she will be granted it depends on her individual case. Many ask for a certain period of time. I wouldn't ask for more than a year. There is a goof chance she will get the first extension approved.

2. Supervisa are not meant for living in Canada so if she leaves Canada it would be best for her to reestablish herself at home before returning. Entering the US is a risky option for example because in some cases people are denied entry or given a short amount of time to enter Canada. Supervisas aren't meant to allow people to move to Canada permanently so eventually she should be planning on returning to her home.
