parents got 2year super visa approved in OCT 2012.
When they landed on same month, in Vancouver airport, apparently they were only given regular 6m visitor visa.
How? they presented all the papers and told officer that they are coming to canada with 2 year super visa.
When they were not told to go to office for more paper work, they asked again, and again that they need two year super visa, and again were told to "just go".
They thought it was strange because, with other special visa like, working visa, student visa, usually you are sent to office where you would receive the visa.
But who are they to question immigration officer? so they just left the airport.

Today, we went shopping in Seattle and on re-entry to canada, border office told us that they only have 6 month visa and super visa is cancelled because they did not get it when they landed.....

You might be saying, may be they were told to go to office and they didn't understand the English?
Impossible! because nobody gets pick and choose.
Officer writes down on the entry paper, who is free to leave and who needs to stop by office. Another officer at the gate, collects the paper and redirects anybody who needs more work.

Question is... how many people went through same officer and now been staying canada for more than 6month, illegally without even knowing?

This has happened to some other people as well ( probably coz they couldn't see their medical info ) , yes, I believe they are not completely aware of the system. My parents were questions for 2 hrs during their 1st trip in 2001 as New Delhi wrote the info in visa via Handwriting and plastic embossed on top

I suggest call CIC to clarify but the way to get 2 year is apply for visa extension at least 90 days before visa expiry ( explain what happened in a letter )

Interestingly, parents who have come here on regular multiple visit visa, have got 2 year extensions when they applied for regular extension visa

its crazy
