Summer/May Semester - Not enough Courses?

Hey! Hi,

Thanks for helping.
I'm just in my final stages of coming to Canada, planning for the May/Summer intake in Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops. The course I've selected is a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Accounting. The Program has 16 courses to be completed and the length of the program is Two Years.

I just read somewhere online that Summer semester doesn't offer enough courses to make it a 'Regular Semester'. This makes it even more difficult for a New student whose starting from summer as various courses have these Prerequisites, which are to be completed before taking that course, which limits even more the choice of courses we have.

Does Having a non-proper semester affect my chances of Off-Campus Work Permit?

Could you please confirm this, as a valid reason to avoid the Summer semester, or Summer semester is OK, and I should not worry about it, and go ahead with it.

1. Yes.
2. To be eligible, you MUST be a full time student. Each school identifies the COURSE LOAD required for a student to be considered full-time so, checkout the minimum required course load (as applicable to your program).
3. If you decide NOT to study/take courses in summer OR decide to continue as a student/take courses (not as a full time student), you will be eligible to apply for an off-campus work permit ONLY after completing;

-Summer term + 6 months of full time studies (from Sept. to Feb.) + 45 days of work permit processing time.

So if I Decide to to TAKE the summer semester, as a full time student than I could apply;

6 months of full time studies (from May to Oct.) + 45 days of work permit processing time.

Right?

If I have the Work Permit say in November 2012, and decide to drop the Winter/Jan 2013 semester. Can I work throughout that period - January to April 2013?

Yeah, So can you work for the semesters you drop, AFTER you've obtained your Work Permit?

Hi,

1. You can not just drop any semester as per your wish. There is one DIR official(Designated Institutional Representatives) for each and every school; one of his duty is to inform CIC (by submission of report once in a year) about students failed to maintain study/work permit conditions. You must be a full time student + comply with all rules while maintaining status on a study/work permit.
