Studying while on pgwp

I need some clarity urgently. I am working in childcare. Now the department of early childhood is making changes in 2022 of which all educators must have a level or in other words be a trained educator.

I graduated with BA in a different program. However, the dept of early childhood is offering a pilot program for educators to get a level (trained) educator. The program is offered through a community college and is 100% online BUT its for 1 year period with 2 practicuum component. I inquired if i can complete in 6 months but I was told no because of the program layout. I have a pgwp. I am concerned if this will affect my PR application and whther or not I need a study permit? Will I be able to pursue this certificate online?

You need a study permit for any course over 6 months and you cannot have a PGWP and study permit at the same time. You can wait and get PR and then take the program. Or you apply for the study permit which cancels your PGWP but your PGWP is given only once.

Despite the course being entirely online? I know i will need a study permit for in class component. I am not completing an in class component. I think you are incorrect as an individual CAN have studypermit and work permit simultaneously.

But it is through a public college so the course is ”in-Canada” even though online. Taking a one year program would be in violation of your PGWP.

Sorry for the bother, So if am understanding, if I am able to take this same course within the 6 months window, should i be fine without a study permit? The course is at your own pace.

Since it is a college program, what is the program length stated. If it is advertised as a year long program, you need a permit even though you want to finish it in 6 months. You said there are 2 practicums. How would you complete those within 6 months and your course work.

Thanks for your response. Its 3 courses with 2 practicuums. The program is a do at your own pace. Perhaps its best for me to apply my PR first then pursue it then.

Even if the program is advertised as do at your own pace there is always an average or target completion time. Would think that 3 courses and 2 practicums would not appear to be a program that can be completed within 6 months.
